During the Amsterdam leg of their European tour, AQT Entertainment had the opportunity to have a sit-in one-on-one interview with Nigeria’s Afrobeat Icon Femi Kuti, as well as his son and protégé Made Kuti.
The father and son pair shed some light on their connection, which includes orchestrating and playing numerous instruments as well as performing together all over the world. They both explained their creative processes, with Femi Kuti stating that he does not officially release music until he has performed it with his band for a period of time in order to introduce new components, ideas, and fresh inspiration to the music intended for release, resulting in an ageless sound.
Made expressed his admiration for his dad’s craft and work ethic, obviously inspired by Femi’s energy, he speaks on aspiring to have that same drive. Made Kuti also discussed his most recent solo full-length album, “For(e)word,” released on 2021 and how long it took him to complete the fascinating piece of work.
Following in the footsteps of his father and legendary Afrobeats pioneer, the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, both Femi and son Made collaborated on the album “Legacy,” in 2021, a project which received a Grammy nomination in the Best Global Music Category at the 2022 Grammy Awards ceremony, giving Made his first very first Grammy recognition and Femi his sixth.
A very bubbly, cheer-filled and interactive interview session, it’s safe to say the icon Femi Kuti and his son Made Kuti are quite an awesome pair.
