AFRIMMA AWARDS SUMMARY

The AFRIMMA AWARDS 2021 was held yesterday, 12th of December 2021, with lots of highlight winners receiving well deserved rewards for their extreme hard work this year. From Big Wiz taking home 3 solid awards, to P.Priime receiving the producer of the year award after a fantastic run of form, the AFRIMMA awards had the attention of millions of music lovers all over Africa. The bonding effect of this award ceremony cannot be overemphasized, as we unite as one Africa to celebrate the extensive talent present in this blessed continent.

We say a big congratulations to all winners yesterday. Here are some of your highlight winners from last night;

ADEKUNLE GOLD & SIMI: It was an emotional night in the household of Adekunle Gold and Simi, as the power couple both bagged the best male and female acts in West Africa. Both hard workers have rightly deserved their awards for an amazing run in 2021, and would be the first ever couple in the history of the award to bag the best male and female award together; couple goals, right?

DAVIDO & FOCALISTIC: Nobody can deny the electric composition this duo have whenever they share a studio session; no single misses in sight! It was only right for them to bag the best collaboration award after the outrageous success of KE STAR REMIX, which had the whole continent in an amapiano chokehold. Focalistic also went home with the Best Male Southern Africa award for his amazing exploits this year. Won’t be a surprise if next year they take this same collaborative award as a result of Davido and Focalistic with the CHAMPION SOUND.

DIAMOND PLATNUMZ: The Tanzanian Legend bagged the best Male East Africa award last night, and nobody can deny it is well deserved. After a great run in 2021, dope tracks like KAMATA, and a host of healthy collaborations all over Africa, it was a great way to end the year for Diamond Platnumz.

OLAMIDE: After dropping UY SCUTI where he drastically changed his flow, Olamide’s reverence as a rapper is still to be respected, as he took home the Best Male Rapper award. Social media however had their say, as they questioned that his last album wasn’t a stricto sensu rap album. Should this be ignored because of Olamide’s rich rap pedigree? Let us know what you think.

P.PRIIME: After giving us two song of the year contenders with Loading and Infinity in 2020, P.Priime continued his no-miss run in 2021 with jams like Southy Love, Anoti, and Ozumba Mbadiwe. Really… who did you think would walk home with the producer of the year award other than Big P?

WIZKID: A hattrick of awards for Machala; Crossing Boundaries with Music, Artiste of the Year, and Song of the Year with Tems and Justin Bieber for Essence Remix. The international superstar continues his amazing run of form in collecting awards this year, as he just recently won big at the MOBO awards and MTV EMA’s. It can be said that this was indeed a year to remember for the Grammy winner, as the relevance of Afrobeats worldwide came to amazing limelight as a result of his relevance in Afrobeats in 2021.

RUGER: This year was truly the revelation year for eyepatch icon Ruger, as he took home the Best Newcomer Award after a scintillating run this year. The buzz of his first EP “The Pandemic” took off this year, with his hit single “Bounce” reaching number 1 in the country for several weeks in 2021. He finished the year strong by dropping his second EP “The Second Wave” which is heavily comprised of smash hits, as rightly took home this AFRIMMA award for his consistency.
