Protoje has made a mark as an outstanding Reggae artist of the modern times. The conscious reggae tune ‘Self Defense‘ from his Album ‘In Search of Lost Time‘ is a tune that tells a story of vengeance on male predators.
As demonstrated in the video directed by Rebecca Williams, we see things from the perspective of these women who take the law into their hands and go after their abusers, making them pay dearly for the sins committed against them.
On the song “Self Defense,” Protoje can be heard in his lyrics, going after the government’s failure and inability to put up a fight against abusers and hear the cry of women who are abused on a daily basis, also calling out rapists and domestic abusers criticizing their evil deeds classifying them as having a “Sicko Mentality”.
The reggae crooner Protoje is known for his firm stance in women advocacy and his songs and lyrics further proves that.
