L.A.X: The Journey To The Top

Damilola Abdul Rasak Afolabi, better known by his stage as L.A.X, is a Nigerian singer, composer, and performer who, like all musicians, began as a young child with dreams. L.A.X has always been interested in music and has remained faithful to the path he set out on when he first began out as a rapper in secondary school and created a group with friends called The Flyboiz.

Starting Music Professionally

Contrary to most other boy bands, L.A.X. and his bandmates in The Flyboiz really moved beyond just freestyling to recording and releasing songs, which marked the beginning of their career as musicians. A song called “Busy Body” by The Flyboiz was released, and a video was made for it. The video has received about 40 thousand views on YouTube. L.A.X left Nigeria and travelled to the United Kingdom in order to enhance his academic education. This relocation to the UK encouraged him to launch his solo career. L.A.X released “Jaye”, a song on which he collaborated with raving superstar at that moment, Ice Prince, while he was in the UK, where he also recorded music and shot some videos. “Jaye” was released in 2012 and it served as his first official solo single. L.A.X also released some other music after “Jaye” in 2012 like “Looking for Me” on which he featured Shyce, T.I.J and Bolly.

L.A.X and Starboy Music Worldwide

A year after releasing his debut solo single, L.A.X returned to Nigeria and had the opportunity to meet with one of the most popular superstars, Wizkid. Wizkid, who started his record label not long before then, decided to sign L.A.X into Starboy Music Worldwide after seeing how talented the youngster was. On August 20, 2013, Wizkid teamed up with L.A.X on a new single titled “Caro” which became a massive hit, received massive airplay and positive reception from critics and audience. The single, “Caro” also served as a means to introduce L.A.X to every one of the music listeners as the new Starboy signee. After “Caro”, L.A.X and Wizkid teamed up again on another single titled “Ginger”. Once again, their collaboration worked like magic and both of them made another monster-hit which was massively loved and critically accepted. “Ginger” and “Caro” got L.A.X some award nominations and wins.

Under his record label, L.A.X has released two albums. He published his first studio album, “Rasaking”, in 2018, and his second album, “Zaza Vibes,” in 2020. In 2020, L.A.X also disclosed that he had signed with the Record label and Distribution Company, Empire, in an effort to promote his songs around the globe and gain more exposure abroad.

L.A.X, who is now touring Europe and whose stop in Rotterdam will be hosted by AQT Entertainment, is also preparing to release his third studio album.
