According to Buju Banton, the upbeat song, “High Life“, is “about how innate consciousness and connection is to the blessed herbs,” as he explains to Rolling Stone. “Not only from a feel-good standpoint but also from a spiritual one. We wanted to honor that sacrament in some way.“ The two musicians accomplish this while still having fun, as seen in Snoop Dogg‘s rap, “Pass me chalice/Real ganja baby inside Buckingham Palace.”

High Life” is one of the few brand-new songs Buju Banton has put out this year; the others being his solo single “Media Dolly,” which was released in January, and his duet with Nitty Kutchie on “Lord I Thank You,” which was released at the end of March. Despite the fact that “High Life” is only his second new song to be released this year – the first being “Tomorrow,” a song for the Godfather of Harlem album that also features DenaunSnoop Dogg has remained himself as always. In addition to appearing in a Super Bowl commercial alongside his close friend Martha Stewart.
