The new single captures Femi Kuti’s reflections on Nigeria’s leadership since its transition to democracy in 1999. Marking a significant moment in his career, the track critically examines over two decades of civilian rule and the challenges that have shaped the nation.
In “After 24 Years,” Femi Kuti revisits themes he first explored in his iconic track “Sorry Sorry” from the album Shoki Shoki (1998), where he critiqued the blurred lines between military and political leadership. His latest work underscores how little has changed despite the shift to democracy, echoing concerns about governance that have persisted over time.
I wrote ‘After 24 Years’ as a reflection of my state of mind during that period. Despite recording it in November 2023, I chose not to alter its historical context because it captures an important moment in our nation’s journey,” said Femi Kuti. “My music will continue to address social and political issues as I see them evolve.”
This single is part of his upcoming album “Journey Through Life,” set for release on April 25, 2025. The album promises an introspective exploration of themes such as freedom and justice, issues that resonate deeply with audiences today.
